Nature in the surroundings of the village [ Natural point of interest ]

Příroda
Part of cadaster of the village falls into Protected Landscape Area Poodří
(further PLA Poodří) whose border is led on local roads from Vražné through centre of the village further to Hůrka and Bernartice nad Odrou.

PLA Poodří is wetland territory that includes above all wold of Odra and parts of connecting enhanced platforms. For its extraordinary values it was included into network of international wetlands in terms of Ramsar convention.

On the basis of natural values the territory of the region is divided, according to law Nr. 114/1992 Sb. of protection of nature and landscape into 4 zones: The most valuable first zone with simultaneously strictest protection conditions includes territory of natural monument Meanders of Old Odra (see thereinafter) and then Jeseník's part (also Bernartský forest, Bernartický forest, Small forest or else). The second zone is made up by remaining regularly flooded part of wold of Odra with permanent herbages, the third zone is above all arable land and built-up territory of the village including area of Lower mill is included in the fourth zone. Built-up territory of Jeseník nad Odrou is in the PLA Poodří included whole.

Naturaly most valuable part of landscape deserve increased territory protection. Law of protection of nature and landscape enables to proclaim these territories to be for example natural reservations, natural monuments etc.

In the Protected Landscape Area Poodří there is "the freshest" of them, natural monument Meanders of Old Odra that is situated on the border of cadasters of Mankovice and Jeseník nad Odrou (in meadows under railway line, opposite the Jeseník's pond).

Category "natural monument" is really pregnant as it concerns a monument of natural character - old winding and nowadays from great part grounded bed of Odra with amount of periodical pools and separate permanent pools. Periodical (getting dry) pools are ranked to the most valuable wetland biotopes namely not only in the Protected Landscape Area Poodří. During overflowing of water from Odra or snow melt they are filled by water which they hold for number of weeks, often until summer when they become dry.

These special living conditions correspond with the needs of some species of plants and animals as for example slight shellfish - branchia-leg-animals, wetland molluscs and some other invertebrates, from the most staring and simultaneously rarest species of plants it is e.g. water violet.

Many of these localities were in former times landed up, often during agricultural farming in meadows. One of them was even pool that is situated lonely in the meadows not far off river east of Meandres of Old Odra., This one was used during water-resources adjustments of Odra as a place where unnecessary soil could be permanent stored.

In terms of care of nature the Administration of PLA Poodří last year ensured exploitation of part of backfill and at least in limited extend renovation of original pool. Its other development and settlement by plants and, animals will be an object of observation in the following years.

Another reason for proclamation of natural monument are original bank growths that are characterized by species variety of hardwood species, there occur no non-original species. They create relatively narrow zone in meadows and are age diversified. Remarkable and objective is comparising of these former growths, already from afar height and colorly varied, to monolithic zone of willows which is made up by .contemporary bank growths of Odra.

Surrounding, annually flooded meadows create natural protective zone of protected territory. Only for interest - through the territory goes border between Moravia and Silesia.

An interesting geological locality is right-bank terraced slope of Odra along the Small forest to Bernartice nad Odrou. River erosion led to scarfing of terrace and creating of steep slope with amount of slight morphological forms. On its creating was applied except the most expressive erosion of Odra also retrogressive erosion on wells, depth scouring by slight streams, rain overland flow.

Varied geological composition and underflooding of hill bottom (opening of Poruba's gate) caused formation of numerous slidings. An expressive anthropogenic shape are hollows of forest ways.
All these procedures gradually created today's dynamic and here and there enclosed relief. They proceed so far of what show evidence even slight active slidings.

In places of curves of Odra, at the northwestern edge of the Small forest, there are by side erosions of Odra uncovered before-Quarternary sediments of silesian unit (godul development, Těšín's nappe).

It concerns black-and-grey, sporadically slightly micaceous claystones, Veřovice's layer (Secondary, sp. Cetraceous Period). Here and there are situated positions of grey middle-grained sandstones. Further along stream there are on the right bank uncovered other smaller outcrops. Picturesqueness of the place is underlined even by perfectly developed meandres of Odra that contrast with modified bed of Luha. Odra in these places changes right-angled its direction and on our whole territory it flows further to northeast.
